On 7/7/2022, the Douglas County Board of Commissioners INTRODUCED the following ordinance: 

ORDINANCE: 2022-1601 

TITLE: Ordinance 2022-1601 repealing existing Douglas County Code, Title 6 – Animals, Chapter(s) 6.04 – Definitions, 6.08 – Licensing for Dogs, Kennels and Pet Shops; Cat and Ferret Registration, 6.16 – Dog Restrictions – Penalty, 6.20 – Impoundment, 6.24 – Restraining and Abandonment of Animals, and 6.28 – Investigation, Citation and Penalties, and replacing the repealed Chapter(s) with Chapter(s) Chapter(s) 6.04 – Definitions; 6.08 – Dog, Cat and Ferret License; Foster Animals; Dog Number Limitation; 6.12 – Dog Breeders, Dog Fanciers, Dog Rescue, Pet Services, Pet Shops and Kennels; 6.16 – Rabies Control and Animal Bites; 6.20 – Animal Restrictions and Impoundment; 6.24 – Animal Mistreatment and Cruelty; and 6.28 – Investigations, Citations and Penalties, and providing for all other properly related matters. 

SUMMARY: Ordinance 2022-1601 repeals existing Douglas County Code, Title 6 – Animals, Chapter(s) 6.04 – Definitions; 6.08 – Licensing for Dogs, Kennels and Pet Shops; Cat and Ferret Registration; 6.16 – Dog Restrictions – Penalty; 6.20 – Impoundment; 6.24 – Restraining and Abandonment of Animals; and 6.28 – Investigation, Citation and Penalties; and replaces the repealed Chapter(s) with the following Chapter(s) and statutory language as further specified in the Ordinance: Chapter(s) 6.04 – Definitions; 6.08 – Dog, Cat and Ferret License; Foster Animals; Dog Number Limitation; 6.12 – Dog Breeders, Dog Fanciers, Dog Rescue, Pet Services, Pet Shops and Kennels; 6.16 – Rabies Control and Animal Bites; 6.20 – Animal Restrictions and Impoundment; 6.24 – Animal Mistreatment and Cruelty; and 6.28 – Investigations, Citations and Penalties. 

The 2nd Reading of this Ordinance will be held on 8/4/2022. A copy of this ordinance is on file in the Clerk’s Office for public review.
