Genoa, Nev. — The county’s skeeter hunters will take to the air this morning north of Muller Lane west of Highway 395. Douglas County Mosquito Abatement will wrap up the day at 9 p.m. with fogging near Sunridge and La Diagio.
County commissioners are continuing their wandering ways 10 a.m. today, meeting in the CVIC Hall while their chambers are being used for elections. It’s a light meeting with three proclamations, a presentation and a two-year review of development agreements.
There’s a celebration of life 10 a.m. July 8 at St. Gall Catholic Church for former Gardnerville resident and Carson Valley Food Closet Director Mike Wiley. Mike and Gold Star Mom Sally Wiley moved to Oregon last summer.
The volunteer policy issue arrived in Genoa on Wednesday night as the town tries to figure out how to minimize its effect on Candy Dance. The proposed plan is to background check a group of volunteer managers who will then oversee the volunteers as an entity separate from the town.
I had a sense of déjà vu last night after getting home from the town board, and a quick search revealed I’d written this exact same story May 14, 2010, and even editorialized on it in that edition. The policy requirement for background checks was approved by the county May 19, 2011. It was reworked some in April of this year.
There’s a chance of showers in the forecast for Sunday. I wouldn’t bank on that occurring, but it would be nice to get some rain, finally.
We could see a little bit of wind today as another cool front rolls into Western Nevada. Expect increasing clouds with the west wind at 15-20 mph, gusting to 30 mph this afternoon and tonight.
