Genoa, Nev. — Minden Park was packed on Sunday for the celebration of Navy World War II veteran Bob Netzley’s 100th birthday, which is today, June 6, the 78th anniversary of D-Day.
An East Fork Fire Protection District brush truck that left for New Mexico on May 3 is still there a month later, though its crew of four has swapped a couple of times in the meantime. The district also sent two heavy equipment boss trainees during the month, with the second heading down last week.
As of Saturday morning, 3,813 Douglas voters have cast a ballot so far in the Flag Day Primary, with 788 voting in person. With the 2,481 ballots returned as undeliverable or by residents, that accounts for around a tenth of the county’s electorate.
Early in-person voting continues 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. this week at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center. The last day to early vote before Election Day is Friday.
Noon today is the very last minute to get a letter in before the election. We’re not publishing letters that bring up new issues in this last edition before the election, but if you want to dash off a note in support of your favorite candidate, I’ll do my level best to get that in print.
It sprinkled over the weekend, though there were spots that looked like they were getting a little something more around the Valley, including up in the Carson Range and the Pine Nuts to the northeast.
Don’t get used to the cool weather, because the highs are forecast to climb into the 90s in time for Carson Valley Days weekend. It’ll take another dip, but we’re close to the time when Mother Nature starts bringing the heat.
For today expect sunny skies and a high near 82 degrees. The Zephyr will pick up this afternoon out of the west at 10-15 mph.
