Genoa, Nev. — About 56 percent of Alpine County voters cast a ballot in California’s Tuesday election. Undersheriff Tom Minder will take over as sheriff from my reading of the unofficial results.

Meanwhile, Douglas County has another week before Election Day in Nevada, with 5,773 votes cast early so far, including 1,283 in person as of last night. Voting machines are available at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center today through Friday.

The county announced Vicky north of Stephanie will be closed 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Thursday to deal with a ponding issue near Kim Place. The county expects to resolve the issue through installation of two new driveway culverts that are damming water.

I expect the pickleball folks turned out for Tuesday’s Parks & Recreation Advisory Board’s meeting. From the report, it appears the pickleball courts are proposed for the dirt portion northeast of the Douglas County Community & Senior Center parking lot.

Carson Valley Community Theatre is conducting auditions for Dr. John Watson in “The Last Great Tale of the Legendary Sherlock Holmes” 6 p.m. today and Friday at the Copeland Annex in Minden.

The Carson Valley Days Carnival is taking shape over in Lampe Park in preparation for its opening 5-11 p.m. Thursday for Buddy Night. They won’t take discount tickets until Friday, so don’t even.

I’ll be out of the office today for one of my mini-vacations. If you need me send me a note. I’ll pop in now and again.

A heat advisory goes into effect for pretty much the western half of Nevada 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday with the high in Minden forecast to hit 93 degrees. The record high for June 10 is 98 degrees set in 1955. The record for today is 100 degrees set in 2013, so unless we hit triple digits, those records are safe.

Today’s forecast calls for 88 degrees and mostly sunny skies, with the zephyr picking up at 10-15 mph this afternoon, and gusts of up to 25 mph.
