Genoa, Nev. — On Wednesday, Douglas County Commissioner Danny Tarkanian conceded the primary race for Congress to incumbent Mark Amodei. The congressman still faces opponents in the general, but the Second Congressional district’s Republican majority should ensure his return to Washington.

Comparing turnout numbers across the Clerk-Treasurer’s and Secretary of State’s Office there appear to be around 3,000 mailed ballots that are not included in the Election Night results. Depending on the status of those ballots, Douglas turnout could increase to 29 percent.

The only close primary race that might see a change as a result of counting mailed ballots is the School Board Area 7 seat, where Dave Burns holds a 293-vote lead over Roberta Butterfield. Any change could put one of the candidates over the 50 percent plus 1 required to win the election outright.

The Pony Express Re-rider is just outside of Pollock Pines this morning heading west toward Old Sacramento. They had to figure a way to avoid the Caldor Fire burn area last night. The mochila is due in Old Sacramento at 4:30 p.m. today.

County commissioners are tackling the Recovery Act list at their 10 a.m. meeting today. There’s a job of work in sorting through the 50 requests that amount to way more than what’s available.

The Tahoe folks are hoping to rescue $1.4 million to reconstruct Kahle Drive at Stateline. Commissioners are meeting at the CVIC Hall in Minden while their chambers are used for counting mailed ballots.

There’s a lake wind advisory for Western Nevada 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and a wind advisory 2-9 p.m. Friday that might see 50 mph gusts in Carson Valley. If you’ve got something you don’t want to blow away, secure it.

On the other end of the front, the high temperature is supposed to drop to 64 degrees on Saturday with a forecast snow level of 6,300 feet, rising to 7,600 feet.

Today, expect sunny skies and a high temperature near 86 degrees. The wind will pick up out of the southwest at 15-25 mph, with the possibility of 40 mph gusts.
