Genoa, Nev. — A celebration of Bob Cook’s life was conducted Saturday at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center. Bob played a big part in getting the senior center built in addition to serving on many volunteer boards.
On Sunday, David and Kathi Hussman had some folks over for ice cream and cookies to celebrate the sesquicentennial of the Hussman Ranch. The first Hussmans purchased the property from old Johnny Gardner’ville himself, before there was a town.
Genoans may see their property tax rate lowered by .0061, according to the Douglas County Clerk-Treasurer’s Office. Only Skyland residents will see an increase, at all, to .2298 cents per $100 assessed valuation. County commissioners are meeting 4 p.m. today to approve tax levies for the political entities in the county.
Firefighters are urging Douglas County residents to leave fireworks to the professionals this Fourth of July. That’s a nice way of saying the sale and use of fireworks is prohibited across the Sierra Front and have been for a long time. If you’ve got some you need to get rid of, call East Fork Fire Protection District at 775-782-9040.
By this time last year, we’d had at least four red flag warnings for high winds and low humidity. So far, we haven’t had one, but dry winds gusting to 30-45 mph are in the forecast for Tuesday, with some breezy spots on Wednesday.
Minden-Tahoe Airport recorded 93 degrees on Sunday, which is warm, but not anywhere near record-breaking. If today’s forecast of 96 degrees comes to fruition, it will be the hottest day in 2022. Winds will be out of the southwest at 10-15 mph, gusting to 25 mph.
