Douglas County investigators are working their second officer-involved shooting case in two weeks for a neighboring jurisdiction.
At around 4:40 p.m. Monday, Lyon County dispatchers received several reports of a person with a firearm at Rosie’s Place Restaurant and Mini-Market in Wellington.
Lyon County deputies, Yerington police and Nevada State Police responded to the restaurant where the armed individual was shot and killed by a law enforcement officer.
The Nevada Division of Investigation is handling the shooting while Douglas County is conducting the coroner investigation.
The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave. As of last night, the deceased has not yet been identified.
Douglas investigators are also working with the state in a shooting that occurred 4:33 a.m. Feb. 22 in Carson City where a man brandishing a machete was shot.
Luis Angel Santana, 21, was apparently using a blow torch to cut out a catalytic converter when deputies arrived on scene. He had a machete and a hatchet tied to his wrist, according to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office.
Santana was hospitalized after being hit twice in the lower part of his body.
