Genoa, Nev. — Douglas County public school students rode the bus without masks for the first time on Monday after the Centers of Disease Control lifted the mask recommendation for the county. www.cdc.gov has a county search that lists Douglas as medium spread, along with Alpine. Mono County is at low chance of spread.
Douglas is down to a daily average of four confirmed cases and a 17.3 percent positivity rate. There have been 87 deaths attributed to the coronavirus since the first in August 2020. Of those 13 have occurred since the beginning of the year.
Gardnerville Town Manager Erik Nilssen released a list of the top 10 worst roads in the town as part of a discussion of the town’s capital improvement plan. North Industrial Way is the worst road in town, followed by Pep Circle off Southgate. Town Board members meet 4:30 p.m. today at the town offices, 1407 Main Street.
January and February were the driest on record at 30-35 snow telemetry sites in the Eastern Sierra. But wet soils under the snow is helping to increase runoff with Lake Tahoe up a foot since mid-October and the Carson River at 85 percent average flow during the water year compared to last year.
Topaz Lake got the most benefit from the October and December storms, according to NRCS climatologist Jeff Anderson and Federal Water Master Chad Blanchard who took a walk to Mount Rose on Monday. The 22,000-acre feet in the reservoir now is more than twice that from last year.
