Genoa, Nev. — If you’re planning some late winter skiing up at Kirkwood, be prepared for parking issues. The California Highway Patrol is towing people parking over the white line. Kirkwood announced earlier this week it’s staying open until May 1, while Heavenly is wrapping April 24, depending on the weather.

A couple had to be extricated from a sport utility vehicle that ended up on its side up at Tramway around 5:30 p.m. There was no word of serious injury.

Area 2 School Board Trustee Robbe Lehmann filed for re-election on Wednesday. No one has filed for outgoing Trustee Ross Chichester’s seat, yet, but I wager that won’t go empty for long. As of Wednesday night, there is still only one county commission race. Filing continues through March 18, so there’s still plenty of time.

Genoa Town Board member Brian Crowe filed for election to retain his seat. Minden has three candidates signed up so far, including members Bill Driscoll and Bryan Davis and former County Commissioner Larry Walsh. Gardnerville Town Board member Mike Henningsen and former Town Manager Jim Park have filed for two of the three seats up for election this year.

Travis Lee and Frank Dressel are seeking re-election to the East Fork Swimming Pool District board’s two open seats. The Marla Bay General Improvement District appears to be the only one of the Lake districts with a full slate of candidates.

It snowed a little bit in Genoa and along the foothills, but nothing measurable and not much toward the middle of the Valley. Chain controls are still in effect for Kingsbury and Highway 50, but traffic is moving normally.

It’s going to be chilly today and increasingly sunny today with a high of 45 degrees. Expect tonight to get down to the teens or lower in spots before temperatures begin to warm up again.
