Genoa resident Susan Jansen, 65, is seeking the Douglas County School Board District 2 Trustee seat held by Robbe Lehmann.

“I understand that many students in our county are getting what is said to be a high-quality education, but I am concerned about both what they are being taught and why the current board isn’t being truthful or transparent about it,” she said.

Susan and her husband Dean moved to Nevada eight years ago after she retired from 32 years of teaching.  Dean has been in the insurance field for more than 45 years.  Their grown daughter, Ashley, is in the healthcare industry in California.

With a master’s of art education degree, she taught that subject, along with English, history, and physical education.

“The great outdoors, along with the conservative values and the county’s rural aspects, is what drew me here,” she said.  “Wanting to help children is what drew her to the school board race.”

Jansen said she believes parents should be the primary arbiter of their children’s education also played a role in her decision.

“Parents and the community should be able to have confidence that students here are not being led astray by woke ideology embedded in classroom lessons or materials available to students, but they can’t,” she said. “I also find the intrusive sex education program foisted on the district by the state troubling.”

She said her top priority is is to create a moral education environment in Douglas County schools that focuses on teaching students the information and skills they need to pursue successful goals and reach their dreams and doesn’t usurp the rights of parents to guide their children on the pathways the parents believe to be the best.”
