When Jesus set his face (focused on) toward Jerusalem He knew what awaited Him. Luke 9:51 Now it came to pass, when the time had come for Him to be received up, that He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem, 52 and sent messengers before His face. And as they went, they entered a village of the Samaritans, to prepare for Him. 53 But they did not receive Him, because His face was set for the journey to Jerusalem.
In verse 22 He made the revealing statement that He would be rejected, killed, and raised from the dead. 22 saying, “The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.”
Jesus was steadfast and immovable in His mission, knowing the absolute horror that He was going to face. He was committed to the call to be the Savior to all who would receive Him. Nothing could deter Him, yet He ministered to all He would come in contact with along the way.
What does this mean to us? To all of us who have received Jesus as our Savior, we are called to also be steadfast and immovable in our faith. 1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
Allow the following scriptures speak to you. Deuteronomy 5:32 “Therefore you shall be careful to do as the Lord your God has commanded you; you shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.
Ephesians 4:14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting,
Ephesians 3:16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love.
God wants us to know what we believe and why we believe it. Dr. Tackett author of the Truth Project made a statement in the beginning of He teaching “Do you really believe what you believe?” This question should be answered yes with an exclamation point.
I will leave you with this last scripture to ponder as a Christian. 1 Peter 3:15But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;
My you remain steadfast and immovable in the things of the Lord.
