Main Street Gardnerville hosts the annual “Sweep the Town,” community cleanup event on May 7. Anyone wanting to lend a hand is invited to meet 9 a.m. on Saturday morning at Gardnerville Station, 1395 Main St.

Bring a broom and gloves and bring a friend. Organizations and groups are also welcome to participate. Snacks and coffee will be served to volunteers.

Past projects include cleaning, repairing, and improving public spaces that have been misused, neglected, or vandalized. Target areas include parks, schools, sidewalks, trails, and parking lots in the local downtown area.

MSG was the first community in Nevada to receive Main Street designation in the nationally accredited Main Street program, which aims to “revitalize older and historic commercial districts to build vibrant neighborhoods and thriving economies” (mainstreet.org).

Scarselli hosts scholarship fund raffle

Each spring, Scarselli Elementary School provides a scholarship opportunity for graduating high school seniors who attended SES during their grade school years. The SES Alumni Scholarship has presented $500 to at least four former students annually over the past 20 years, and in 2021, seven graduating seniors each received a $600 award.

The original source of funding for the alumni scholarship fund was an SES talent show and silent auction. Fundraising efforts later expanded to include a raffle for themed baskets created and assembled by classes throughout the school. Current SES families lend their support by donating items to each class basket.

Log onto ses.dcsd.net to preview the 2022 basket selections. Some of this year’s themes include: Bake the World a Better Place; Curl Up with a Good Book; Doggone Fun; Fiesta Time; The Great Outdoors; Grow Your Garden; Lights, Camera, Action; and Tea Makes Everything Better.

Families with students attending SES can purchase raffle tickets via the order form included in tomorrow’s Pee Chee folders. All baskets will be on display during the SES Art Show on May 12, which is the last day raffle tickets will be sold.

Others looking to participate can stop by the school at 699 Long Valley Road in the Gardnerville Ranchos to purchase raffle tickets. Monetary donations to the scholarship fund are also welcome and appreciated.

A “Virtual Raffle” will be held May 13 with winners announced that same day.

Call Scarselli at 775-265-2222 for questions or for more information.
