Genoa, Nev. — County commissioners are scheduled to review a draft letter to the Bureau of Indian Affairs commenting on the Painted Rock Mine calling for an alternate route to Johnson Lane.

I expect commissioners will give the coronavirus emergency declaration the bum’s rush today and bid it good riddance. Commissioners meet 10 a.m. today at the historic Douglas County Courthouse, 1616 Eighth St. You can find out more at www.douglascountynv.gov.

Genoa resident Brendan Riley is up for appointment to the town board to replace Linda Birdwell. Brendan’s lived in Nevada’s oldest town for decades.

Main Street Gardnerville’s first Wine Walk of the season is 4:30-7:30 p.m. today. Tickets are $20 for new participants and $15 for returning wine walkers. Tickets are available at Gardnerville Station on the east side and Big Daddy’s on the west.

A report of an armed subject resulted in the lockdown at Sierra Lutheran High School around 3 p.m. Wednesday. All the cops swarmed the school, but the subject left before they got there. It sounded to me as though there might have been some sort of miscommunication.

Topaz Ranch Estates medics responded to a work truck that rolled over at Highway 208 and Granite Way at around 7 a.m. Driver called in and said lost control on a bump. He is not injured.

Carson Valley is in the middle of a big wind advisory sandwich, with red flag warnings up to Esmeralda County and in the Central Valley of California. That doesn’t mean the wind won’t be blowing here, quite the contrary.

The wind will pick up out of the east this morning at 5-10 mph, shifting west at 15-25 mph, gusting to 40 mph. Expect mostly sunny skies today with a high near 79 degrees, as the weather starts to cool.
