High Plains Beauty Show displays Nevada’s artistry
Featured oil paintings like 'Nevada' by renowned artist and Gardnerville resident Charles Muench that capture his inspirations from Northern Nevada and the Eastern Sierra are on display at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center.
Wild horses running across the plains at the base of the Sierra’s and overlooking a snow-covered Comstock town are part of the High Plains Beauty Show at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center today through June 4. The featured oil paintings are works from renowned artist and Gardnerville resident Charles Muench and his inspirations from Northern Nevada and the Eastern Sierra. One painting showing wild horses running across the plains is titled ‘Nevada’ and captures the beauty and wild of Northern Nevada, said Muench. “I titled it simply ‘Nevada’ because it is Nevada,” he said. “People think of Nevada as just Las Vegas and it’s so much more than that. These paintings show the beauty all around Northern Nevada and the Sierras.” Muench said much of his inspiration comes from his day-to-day encounters. “Just the other day on my way to an appointment, I noticed the perfection of the clouds and it was a really beautiful scene, so I took a picture and used it later for inspiration in a painting,” he said. “Sometimes, those pictures are the whole painting or the inspiration for something bigger, but’s it’s a reminder of what I saw and want to paint.” For more information and to view his work visit charlesmuench.com or see for yourself at the High Plains Beauty Show’ Meet the Artist 11 a.m.- 1p.m. Saturday. “It’s very informal, just a chance to view the art and answer questions,” said Muench. “Each painting has a caption about it so even if I’m not there, people can still know more about what they’re viewing.” The High Plains Beauty show will be on display at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center.
