Genoa, Nev. — Welcome All Veterans Everywhere is hosting a gathering 0800 today at the memorial in front of the Douglas County Courthouse in Minden before heading to breakfast at 0830. The Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center will be ringing the bells for Armistice Day at 1100 on the steps of the old Douglas County High School.
I did the newspaper equivalent of washing my car to get it to rain election results this morning by typing them in from Wednesday’s report. That should ensure new results arrive in the next couple of hours. It’s Veterans Day, so no one is getting mail, including the Clerk-Treasurer’s Office.
Those paper ballots postmarked Nov. 8 likely arrived at the clerk’s office on Thursday at the earliest, which means the stragglers will be coming in on Saturday’s deadline.
A bear raided a bunch of trash cans down in Topaz Ranch Estates last night. Those bruins have been the bane of trash collectors for months. Maybe the blanket of snow will encourage them to go to sleep.
The Young at Heart Craft Fair kicks off 5-8 p.m. today and continues 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Sierra Lutheran is having its craft fair 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. I figure there will be a lot of Santa sightings today.
A reception for the weekend long holiday art & wine event is 6-8 p.m. with the show open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center.
A weak winter storm could bring a little snow over the weekend, with possible accumulations of up to 4 inches at Lake Tahoe and even Douglas. Winds are expected to pick up tonight cranking up to 70-90 mph over the Sierra crest on Saturday.
It’s 14 degrees out at dawn today, according to Minden-Tahoe Airport’s automated weather station. Readings range up to 22 degrees in the Valley, but by any measure, it’s frosty out.
Today’s forecast is calling for mostly cloudy skies and a high temperature of 43 degrees. A light north breeze is expected at 5 mph with tonight’s low dipping to 18 degrees in Minden.
