Genoa, Nev. — There are 422 folks signed up online for today’s Turkey Trot which starts in Minden at 9 a.m. today at Minden Park. The kids’ Turkey Dash is 8:30 a.m. Online registration has closed, but you can register in person 7:30-8:30 a.m. today.

The Trot benefits the Carson Valley Community Food Closet and Douglas Animal Welfare Group. I’ll be out taking photos and R-C Associate Publisher Tara Addeo is participating.

In keeping with long tradition, I have my Thanksgiving morning shopping list in hand. It is, thankfully, short and it will give me a chance to survey what stores are open in the Valley.

I’m thankful for all the support we’ve received from our readers and customers over the past year. The R-C doesn’t work without the people of our community who contribute photos, items, letters and much more to the effort.

The office is going to be open most of Friday, putting the rest of Saturday’s edition to bed and packing up our gear in preparation for our eventual move. I know I’ve been a little vague about where we’re going, we have a place, but I don’t want to jinx it.

Bundle up if you’re going to the Turkey Trot this morning, because it’s 18 degrees in Minden at dawn, and might actually warm up to past freezing by 9 a.m. The forecast is for sunny skies and a high of 50 degrees today, climbing to 59 degrees on Friday.

Kurt Hildebrand has already made the cranberry sauce this morning and cut up the pumpkin for pie. Reach him at khildebrand@recordcourier.com or 775-781-0351.
