Genoa, Nev. — A motorist survived a dip in the East Fork off Highway 88 around 6:30 p.m. Saturday when a Subaru went off the highway and into the river. A deputy on scene helped him to shore. One of the few instances when not having much water in the river is a good thing.

Friday’s gorgeous sunset was the icing on the cake for a beautiful Thanksgiving weekend, but a change is already in the air as the wind picks up this morning, according to a National Weather Service statement issued this morning.

Wind will be the biggest impact today as a storm blasts through on its way east. There might be a dusting of snow in the mountains with 30 mph gusts during the day. There’s a chance for something more substantial on Thursday.

With the wind, it’s likely not an open burn day, though there were some doozies over the weekend, including one in TRE on Saturday morning that prompted neighbors to call in a structure fire.

The R-C’s office in Gardnerville is officially closed, and it sounds like we’ll be homeless for the next month while our new offices are being prepared. In the meantime, email is by far the best way to reach me and if there’s something that can’t be handled digitally, we’ll arrange a meeting.

It's going to be a little bit cooler today with mostly sunny skies and a high temperature near 47 degrees. Expect breezy conditions with the wind out of the west at 15-20 mph this afternoon, gusting to 30 mph.
