It didn’t take long for a man who failed to appear in court last week to be taken into custody.
A $10,000 nationwide warrant was issued for Samuel Thomas Oester, 34, who is accused of using a counterfeit cashier’s check to purchase a vehicle.
He was supposed to be in Douglas County District Court for a continued arraignment on Nov. 21.
Oester is a suspect in the theft of black 2006 Jeep Commander which occurred Feb. 16, according to court documents. Attorney Max Stovall said he hadn’t had any contact with his client when the warrant was issued.
Oester was taken into custody on Nov. 22 and is being held on charges of theft, uttering a forged instrument and failure to appear in court.
• A $7,500 warrant was issued for James R. McKay on Nov. 21, after he failed to appear for an arraignment.
The warrant is issued for the Western United States. According to court documents McKay is accused of failing to pay more than $10,000 in child support since 2007.
• A woman who admitted to being a methamphetamine user is getting a chance at treatment.
Jenee Marie Welch admitted Nov. 21 to possession of a controlled substance.
She was granted probation not to exceed 18 months.
According to court documents, Welch was originally arrested Oct. 26, 2021, in connection with possession of a stolen vehicle with her co-defendant.
Conditions of her probation are to not have contact with the co-defendant or the victim and to complete an in-treatment program and drug court.
“This is a chance for her to get her life together and one last chance to not be convicted with a felony. I’m giving her that chance, but this is it,” said prosecutor Patrick Ferguson.
• A man who attempted to use a credit card belonging to someone else faces up to five years in prison.
Adam Lee Kiolbasa, 35, admitted Nov. 21 to fraudulent use of a credit card without the card holder’s permission.
He was originally arrested in July 2021 after entering the CVS pharmacy at Stateline.
Sentencing is set for Jan. 9, 2023.
