After more than eight years, Gardnerville resident Alyssa Ingram brought her family with her to Saturday’s Main Street Fall Fest to make a scarecrow.
Ingram said she attended her last scarecrow festival when it was still in Minden Park. The event moved to Heritage Park in 2015 to join the rest of the festivities welcoming autumn.
She, Cody Harmon and their three children, Michael, Charlotte and Sophia said they haven’t given their scarecrow a name yet.
She agreed that the festival was considerably larger than when she last tried her hand at building one.
“Absolutely,” she said. “We’re loving it.”
East Fork Gallery’s Barbara Gustafson confirmed that 125 new scarecrows joined the population on Saturday, up from 100 the year before.
Also featured at the annual event was the sixth annual Coffin Races, which saw the Main Street Gardnerville team defeat Carson Valley Crossfit after beating CV Flyte in a photo finish.
“It was a victory that I have to share with my entire team, they came out and showed up,” Main Street Director Jen Nalder said.
Members of E.Clampus Vitus showed off their new coffin, but it didn’t help them win the race, though you might think it did to hear them talk.
Entertainment was provided by Monique DeHaviland and the Cultural Arts Foundation of Douglas County featuring Moxy Ruckus, Miki Rae, Jakota Wass, Scarlet Verbs, and NV order 66.
According to Nalder, there were more than 50 vendors including food trucks and vendors, local nonprofit booths with fun activities for the kids, Minden Bounce House and local crafters.
