Douglas County 4-H Information Night is 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church on 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville.

Today marks the end of 4-H week, as proclaimed by Douglas County commissioners.

“Come see what we have to offer,” said Douglas County 4-H Youth Development Coordinator Patrick B. Flynn. “We have clubs in livestock, equestrian (with or without a horse), baking, hiking, shooting sports and more.”

4-H is always free to join but coming to Information Night helps to guarantee a spot in those clubs children want.

“We need Club Leaders to facilitate dog, goat, bee, Cloverbud (ages 5-8) and Speaking with Confidence Clubs,” Flynn said. “4-H has evolved into the largest youth organization of its kind through Experiential Education and a ‘Learn by Doing’ philosophy. New ideas are always welcome; Teach your Talents and help the youth of Douglas County.”

Douglas County 4-H is open to all youth ages 5-19 and is an EO/AA institution.

Flynn said 4-H has been serving youth from all beliefs and backgrounds with the mission of giving all young people access to opportunity with a “learn by doing” philosophy for more than a century.

By teaching leadership, citizenship and life skills, 4-H strives “To Make the Best Better” 4-H offers so many learning opportunities for young people to try. From agriculture such as market sheep and dairy goats to rabbits and bees, crafts like sewing, baking, and crocheting to hiking, robotics and public speaking, 4-H is here to help kids explore their possibilities.

On Oct. 15, 4-H is bringing back Pingo, which is pumpkin Bingo.

“Pingo is our first Douglas County 4-H Club fundraiser since COVID,” Flynn said. “We want to invite you, the community, to come celebrate National 4-H Week and Fall by joining us for two sessions of Pingo.”

The event will have a Kids’ Raffles, a 50/50 raffle and grand prize raffles including a bear donated by Joe Benigno’s Tree Service.

“Pingo is a family friendly event and open to all ages, so load up the kids and join us for a day of Pingo and fun on Oct. 15 at Carson Valley United Methodist Church.”

Doors open at noon with first game session starting from 1-3 p.m. Second session 4-6 p.m. Sponsored by the Carson Valley Active 20-30 Club to benefit Douglas County 4-H.
