Genoa, Nev. — The Douglas County Clerk-Treasurer's Office was scheduled to put ballots in the mail on Friday, so they should be turning up in mailboxes pretty quick. Today is Columbus Day, so if you didn’t get one on Saturday, it’s not coming today.
It’s only 10 days before in-person early voting starts at both the historic Douglas County Courthouse in Minden and the Douglas County Community & Senior Center in Gardnerville.
We’re wrapping up work on our election guide this week. I’ve got or have heard from everyone but four of the six Topaz Ranch Estates improvement district candidates, whom I haven’t been able to raise via email. If you know someone running for that office, maybe have them drop me a line today.
I spotted a building permit under review for Great Basin Brewery at the site of the former Sierra Pacific Power building in Minden. The site has been undergoing demolition for a while. The property is owned by the Parks, who also own the Overland.
An injured dirt biker was picked up by Care Flight from near Slater Mine in the Pine Nuts around noon Sunday. The report from the scene is that he went over the handlebars and into a tree.
There was a brief shower on the west side of the Valley on Sunday afternoon. Expect sunny skies today and a high near 79 degrees, with the barest breeze out of the north at 5 mph this afternoon. The lows are hanging right around 40 degrees all week, according to the forecast.
