Genoa, Nev. — Douglas County School District and its bus drivers’ association went to binding arbitration over salaries last summer. At their meeting 4 p.m. today, school board trustees will hear the results of that arbitration which include pay increases for the 38 or so bus drivers in the district. The drivers will also receive cell phones. They'd already received a $1,075 bonus.

The new testing scores are out and the district will be presenting them to the school board at their regular meeting at Whittell High School. You can find out more or listen to the meeting at www.dcsd.k12.nv.us and clicking the Board of Trustees tab.

A suitcase abandoned in the parking lot of Zephyr Cove Resort resulted in the closure of the westbound lanes of Highway 50 around 10:30 a.m. Monday. The Tahoe Douglas Bomb Squad was able to make sure it was safe.

Around the same time, a three-vehicle collision at Stephanie Way snarled the northbound lanes of Highway 395. One person was transported from the wreck by East Fork medics to Renown Regional Medical Center.

Another restaurant is proposed for the former Minden McDonald’s. According to a sign hanging off the front, Nuevo Vallarta Family Mexican Restaurant and Bar will open soon. The property was purchased by the owners of Super Burrito several months ago.

Forecasters say the pattern that brought a little rain to the Sierra on Sunday and Monday should be gone through the remainder of the week, bringing benign weather and temperatures up to 10 degrees above average for mid-October.

That means we’ll see sunny skies (no really, this time) and a high temperature around 80 degrees. Lows are hovering around 40 degrees, so the garden is still safe. I’ve got tomatoes ripening outdoors still, so it has been a long, long growing season.
