For 30 of the 40 years the Family Support Council has served Carson Valley, a candlelight vigil has been held in honor of the victims of domestic violence.

Carson Valley native and Program Director Jenn Forzani introduced the council’s staff who help the victims of domestic violence.

“These are the front line staff members who work with victims of domestic violence day in day out, seven days a week, 365 days a year,” she said. “These ladies work with some of the toughest cases. They never complain, they never stop, they keep going every single day, and do it with a smile on their face and a passion in their heart. We are absolutely blessed to have these individuals work with us here at Family Support Council.”

About 75 council members and supporters turned out on an unusually balmy Thursday night to light a candle in hope of eliminating domestic violence.

“We begin this night by lighting one candle to start this evening’s event,” she said. “From the light of one can come many. Each and every one of you has the opportunity tonight to be that light for somebody else here in our community.”

She urged those in attendance to be the light for others.

“If we take tonight’s ceremony and be that one light for another individual in this community and will be working toward building that army of advocates and hopefully work toward the extinction of domestic violence in Douglas County and the state of Nevada,” she said.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Explorers presented the colors, and Sheriff Dan Coverley led the Pledge of Allegiance.
