Genoa, Nev. — A freeze watch has been issued for Saturday night across most of Western Nevada from the Oregon state line south to Beatty and across to Caliente and Pioche, as a storm system is forecast to arrive this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures in Minden are expected to drop to 21 degrees by Sunday night before rebounding next week ending our long, long growing season this year. If you’ve got plants you want to save, bring them in, but it might just be time to retire the gardening trowel for the year.

Forecasters are predicting the first measurable precipitation in a month, with up to a fifth of an inch and a very small chance of some snow in the early morning hours on Sunday. The snow level is expected to drop to 5,000-6,000 feet, so if your travels take you over the passes Sunday morning, watch for slick roads.

The storm is anticipated to roll in on Friday night and will bring winds of 25-40 mph, gusting to 60 mph and very low humidity, which is a formula for the fire weather watch 11 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday.

The Tigers will be battling Silver Springs at home on Friday night, I learned on Wednesday afternoon. It’s their last game of the season and it will definitely be some breezy conditions, which will affect the passing game.

The last Main St. Wine Walk of the season will take advantage of one of the last really nice days of the season 4:30-7:30 p.m. today in beautiful downtown Gardnerville. You can get tickets at Big Daddy’s or Gardnerville Station on either end of the Walk.

Expect sunny skies today with the high climbing to 78 degrees, and a light breeze out of the west at about 5 mph this afternoon. Tonight, the low is supposed to hit 38 degrees in Minden.
