The first hard freeze since the middle of April brought temperatures in the teens to the low parts of Carson Valley on Sunday morning.

Low temperatures plunged from 57 degrees ahead of a front to 26 degrees on Sunday morning and 19 degrees on Monday, according to R-C weather watcher Stan Kapler.

The automated weather system at Minden-Tahoe Airport recorded a 14-degree low on Monday.

The front that rolled in late Friday night brought gusty winds on Saturday morning with Heavenly Ski Base recording a 74 mph gust.

The peak 57 mph wind gust in Carson Valley was recorded in Fish Springs at 5:23 a.m., while Centerville recorded a 49 mph gust.

A fire weather watch issued for high winds and low humidity was followed by a public safety outage alert for residents Genoa, Clear Creek and Lake Tahoe.

NV Energy reported 76 customers above Glenbrook and 14 customers near Clear Creek have been affected by a 2:13 a.m. outage as the wind was howling over the ridges on Saturday morning.

That outage was cleared by Saturday afternoon, according to the company.

The closest thing to a fire from the weekend was a small grass fire along Jacks Valley Road around 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Rain the previous night kept spread slow as the fire smoldered right next to the road. Firefighters had it extinguished by 11 a.m.

Most of the Valley didn’t receive much moisture, with Kapler recording .07 inches of rain over the weekend in Minden.

Genoa received a third of an inch of precipitation, mostly during a Saturday evening rain-snow mix that struck around 6:45 p.m. There were no reports of any weather-related traffic issues during the weekend.
