Genoa, Nev. — School’s out this week for fall break leading up to Nevada Day which is a state holiday on Friday. The parade is on Saturday, and both Douglas High’s marching band and the ROTC will be participating.
I’ll be following up on a rash of break-ins early Saturday morning and the subsequent arrest of a California man in connection with at least one of them.
The polls are open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Douglas County Community Center in Gardnerville and the Historic Douglas County Courthouse in Minden through this week and next. Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Highway 395 through downtown Gardnerville is patched up and open. It’s a good thing the state is getting ready to repave that next year, because one good snow and those patches are going to get a shave from the plows.
I went out into the weather on Saturday night and the rain was pretty slushy coming down in my corner of the Valley. Once I thawed out my grain gauge, the measurement was a third of an inch.
It was breezy with Heavenly recording a 74 mph wind gust 2 a.m. Saturday. Top wind gust in the Valley, according to the National Weather service was a 57 mph gust in the Ranchos at 5:23 a.m.
The low at Minden-Tahoe Airport so far this morning was 14 degrees at 4:55 a.m. Up on the bench it’s running 25-30 degrees. I started my first fire in the woodstove of the season last night. The outdoor tomatoes are definitely dead.
Expect sunny skies and a high near 66 degrees, which is refreshingly average for the date. The breeze will be out of the north at 5 mph. The low is forecast to hit 32 tonight in Minden.
