Genoa, Nev. — No cause was revealed for an outage that affected residents of the northwest corner of Carson Valley on Tuesday. At one point, NV Energy reported 482 homes and businesses were affected starting 11:42 p.m. Most folks were back up by shortly after 1 p.m., but one group of 38 customers were down for another couple of hours.
A Tuesday afternoon fire east of Kiss Lane was limited to a quarter-acre, according to the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center. East Fork and BLM firefighters responded with a helicopter. A tenth-acre fire in Hope Valley reported just after 6 p.m. is under control, according to the Wild Web.
Officially, the fire causes are under investigation, but my bet is that at least two of them were started by lightning strikes. There’s a better chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. today as the heat advisory continues until 9 p.m.
Genoans’ have a full plate for their last meeting before Candy Dance. A contract between Ranch One and the town to use the ranch for parking joins the volunteer agreement for residents’ consideration related to the big fundraiser. The town board meets 5:30 p.m. at the town hall.
Over in Minden, a $725,725 bid to rehabilitate Lantana and Bougainvillea drives that was delayed so the town could complete the Seeman Ranch Pond Park goes before the town board today. A $691,038 bid to continue the town’s water main replacement project is also up for discussion. The Minden Town Board meets 5:30 p.m. at the CVIC Hall.
The high temperature on Tuesday topped out at 100 degrees, due in part to the clouds rolling in over the afternoon. The forecast for today is for 99 degrees. The heat wave is expected to break on Thursday, but don’t expect a significant cooling until the weekend when highs are expected to drop into the 80s by Saturday.
