Fire Information for Resource Management satellite mapping on Friday morning indicated the Mosquito Fire has grown to almost 40,000 acres, three times the official 13,000 acres reported by CalFire officials in the Thursday evening update. The Douglas Rodeo kicks off 7 p.m. tonight and continues Saturday. Tickets are available at Circle S Western Market in Gardnerville or at the gate. The Fish Springs Volunteer Fire Department’s annual spaghetti feed is back 5 p.m. Saturday at the firehouse on Fish Springs Road.

While smoke is expected in the Valley today, there’s a possibility that moisture from Tropical Storm Kay will bring showers to Western Nevada and bring cooler temperatures late this weekend.
