Genoa, Nev. — Between the fire on Long Valley, a wreck at Riverview and 395 and the mini-haboob blowing up from the south, Ranchos residents could be forgiven for thinking the end was nigh. But it was just another blustery Tuesday.
When I first heard the fire call my first thought was that it might have been the dust cloud, but no, it was indeed a house on fire. Around the same time Highway 50 at Kahle had to be closed around 4:30 p.m. because a blocked drain was backing water up over the highway.
Starting Thursday, the state will be closing a lane of Kingsbury five miles up from Foothill Road to conduct weather-related erosion repairs. The work will continue 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. until April 28.
The Senate Judiciary Committee conducted a hearing on Senate Bill 412 with Paula Montanucci and District Attorney Mark Jackson testifying in favor of the bill that would prohibit the Department of Corrections from housing DUI offenders who’ve killed or injured someone from being placed in minimum security until they’ve served a portion of their sentence.
The Carson River is filling up and was up to pretty close to its banks both at the Genoa Lane and Muller Lane bridges on Tuesday. The East Fork crested 10 p.m. Tuesday at 12.8 feet at Horseshoe Bend, just short of the 13-foot action stage.
Cooler weather should slow down the melt-off for the rest of this week. Expect sunny skies with a high of 61 degrees with the southwest wind 15-20 mph, gusting to 30 mph.
