NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

GREAT BASIN UNIFIED AIR POLLUTION

CONTROL DISTRICT

CONSIDERATION OF RENEWAL OF

RESIDENTIAL BURNING EXEMPTIONS

The Governing Board of the Great Basin

Unified Air Pollution Control District will

conduct a public hearing regarding requesting

renewal of discretionary residential burning

exemptions in select areas of the District

from the California Air Resources Board. The

outdoor residential waste burning exemptions

would allow for the continued use of burn

cardboard within the Hammil areas of Mono

County and the Charleston View and Stewart

Valley areas of Inyo County in accordance

with provisions of the Airborne Toxic Control

Measure to Reduce Emissions from Outdoor

Residential Waste Burning (California Code

of Regulations, Title 17, Section 93113)

pending all other requirements for these

areas are fulfilled. These areas have a current

exemption that expires at the end of 2023. The

use of burn barrels and/or the burning of paper

and cardboard is currently allowed in zip code

areas with population densities of three or less

people per square mile, and is prohibited in

areas with population densities greater than 10

people per square mile, unless a discretionary

exemption is requested and granted.

consideration for approval and adoption will

occur at the District Governing Board’s regular

meeting on Thursday September 7, 2023,

at 10:00 a.m. The meeting will occur at the

Mono County Board of Supervisors Chamber

(2nd Floor) at the Mono County Courthouse
