For the second year in a row, Carson Valley Swim Center’s award-winning lifeguard team took top honors at the Northern Nevada Lifeguard Games.

The 11 Minden lifeguards topped three other teams at the Truckee Donner Recreation Center to win first place overall and first place in five out of six categories, Center Director Shannon Harris said.

Competing against Minden’s team were lifeguards from the City of Reno, Truckee Donner and Carson City. The competition was July 30 at Truckee Donner Recreation Center.

The team won first place for their skit “Cleaning Supplies” in the overall spirit category. They also won first places in the rescue relay, the fun relay the quiz bowl and the gauntlet.

Harris gave a special shout-out to team captain Catherine Wedin.

“Her time and dedication is truly appreciated by all,” Harris said. “Everyone did a great job. They represented after working so hard. Their dedication paid off.”

In addition to Wedin, the winning team consisted of senior lifeguards Lilia Fields, Connor Taylor, Kaitlyn Robinson, Abigail Hutchings, and lifeguards Josh Beam, Matt Beam, Dominic Santiago, Terrance Santiago, Alura Schue and Allen Baker.

The Carson Valley Swim Center is located on Highway 88 and Mahogany just south of Douglas High School.
