Genoa, Nev. — A fundraiser is underway for Douglas County Sheriff’s Sgt. Justin Williams who received a head injury on Friday in a golf cart accident. There’s a Venmo link on the Minden-Gardnerville Community Forum and Taylor Lynch will have a donation bucket out. An auction and raffle are in the works.
A 116-townhome project on 9.49 acres along either side of Monte Vista Avenue in Minden will be continued at today’s Douglas County Planning Commission meeting due to a noticing discrepancy. Planning commissioners meet 1 p.m. at the Douglas County Courthouse in Minden.
Planning commissioners are expected to discuss a subdivision map for a 10-lot project at Foothill Road and Centerville Lane just north of the Sheridan Volunteer Fire Department. The 25-acre parcel has been zoned for 2-acre lots since the 1996 master plan.
Two men were detained in the Smith’s parking lot on Thursday after one allegedly displayed a firearm during some sort of dispute. A Gardnerville man was taken into custody on Monday morning related to a pursuit on Sunday night, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
School Board trustees are being asked to designate the position of elementary classroom teacher as a critical shortage need at their meeting 4 p.m. today at the Douglas High School Media Center.
Former Douglas School District Human Resources Manager Joey Girdner resigned and is working for the Storey County School District. Girdner also served as Douglas High School Principal.
The forecast calls for sunny skies and a high of 89 degrees. The wind will pick up this afternoon out of the west at 10-15 mph.
