Work to straighten out High Point Curve above Topaz Lake is just one of the major projects underway to repair last winter’s storm damage.
The California Department of Transportation said a half-mile section of the road will be under construction 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. with a pilot car during work hours and a traffic light after work hours.
Drivers should expect up to 20-minute delays.
Over the winter, Highway 395 was closed at several locations due to snow slides, including a long stretch between Lee Vining and Mono City when there was so much snow on the highway, the county had to warn people away from skiing on it.
On Thursday, the Mono County Office of Emergency Management released a survey to solicit residents’ input regarding the 2023 Winter Storm Emergency response at ready.mono.ca.gov
Residents, business owners, and visitors impacted by the storms are encouraged to complete this survey to provide critical feedback to the Mono County OEM. The information gathered from this survey will allow Mono County to better plan, prepare, and improve future emergency response.
The Mono County OEM objectives for the 2023 Winter Storm Emergency were to:
• Provide support for the life and safety of the public, first responders, and essential workers.
• Support the protection of critical infrastructure.
• Maintain road conditions to support access and egress of emergency personnel and the public.
• Maintain communication between cooperators, stakeholders, and internal team members.
• Ensure coordinated, timely, and accurate dissemination of public information.
The survey will run through the month of August, at which time the Mono County emergency managers will review the results and report back to the community.
