The Friends of the Douglas County Library will host a two-day used book sale Aug. 18-19, at the Minden Branch, 1625 Library Lane.
A preview sale for members of Friends of the Library will be from 3-5:30 p.m. Aug. 18.
Nonmembers can join at the door. Members of the Friends receive a 10 percent discount on all purchases throughout the sale.
The public sale will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 19. The sale will feature fiction and nonfiction books, including large print, vintage, teen, and special children’s books in pristine condition.
With this sale, the Friends are switching to smaller, quarterly sales at the Minden Library.
The next sale is planned for Nov. 17-18, with sales scheduled for February, May, August, and November in 2024.
Proceeds from the book sales are used by the Friends to support library programs and projects for infants, preschoolers, children, “tweens,” teens and adults. Visit https://library.douglascountynv.gov/ for more information.
• The Douglas County Public Library hosts the Adult Crafters’ Club on the third Wednesday of every month.
Adults looking for a creative outlet are invited to come to the Minden library where we will have a fun arts and crafts project to try. This month the group will be creating trinket boxes on Aug. 16. The program begins at 4 p.m. and will end at 6 p.m. No reservations are required. Participants can drop by any time between 4-6 p.m. Please note this program is intended for adults 18 plus.
• The Minden Library will be offering several Medicare 101 seminars presented by Craig Wilcox on the following Tuesdays at 4 p.m. Aug. 15, Sept. 19, Oct. 17, Nov. 21, and Dec. 5
Medicare is an important resource for many in our community, but learning the ins and outs can be overwhelming.
Craig Wilcox is an expert in the Medicare system with 30 years of experience in the healthcare industry and he will be providing a free introductory course for all who are interested. Patrons of all ages are welcome to attend and ask questions.
• The Douglas County Public Library is showing “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret” (PG-13), starring Abby Ryder Fortson, Rachel McAdams, and Kathy Bates will be shown Aug. 26. This movie is 1 hour and 46 minutes long.
