More than $9,000 was raised during Millennium Medical Spa’s Pizza, Pistols & Pooches event on Aug. 5 in support of the four-legged deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

A $9,350 check was presented to the team on Friday with the Millennium Medical Spa team and Chicago Mike’s owner Gina Haase.

“We do anything we can to support the sheriffs, the schools, the fire department and anything to do with children,” said Haase.

Chicago Mikes provided the pizza during the Aug. 5 event.

Pam Horton, Cosmetic Professional at Millennium Medical Spa, coordinated the fundraiser for the annual law enforcement appreciation event.

“It was great to see the community come together and come through,” said Horton. “We do this to show appreciation to our law enforcement and to help support the K-9 unit who rely heavily on community support.”

Horton said it was community effort that made the event successful.

“Due to unexpected and unfortunate circumstances, some of my supporters and team couldn’t make it, but it all came together anyways, and I am so thankful to those who did come out,” said Horton.

Pizza was provided by Chicago Mikes but served by Matthias from Nick & Willies and Stephen Rehm provided entertainment.

“Matthias came out to bake and served the pizza, which was really amazing of him to come at the last minute, I couldn’t have done it without him, said Horton. “I really appreciate all of the supporters. It turned out to be a great event and I think everyone who came had a great time.”

One donor of the event, who wished to remain anonymous, said she has been supporting the Douglas County Sheriff’s for several years.

“I’m glad to see such a great turnout,” she said. “They do a lot for us and keep us safe.”

The Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit provides valuable service, crime prevention and suppression, criminal investigation and protection for officers and citizens, but it takes a lot to train and maintain them and the unit relies heavily on community support.

Sgt. Dave Stanley said the funds are going to go towards medical expenses, training and equipment to help upkeep the K-9 Unit so they can continue to serve the community.

“We appreciate the support,” said Stanley. “Thisis  going to help us out a lot and it means so much to us to receive such generosity and support.”
