Genoa, Nev. — A 5 percent across the board fee increase was approved by East Fork Fire Protection District trustees on Tuesday, Fire Marshal Amy Ray confirmed. The fees are for things like development and plan reviews and inspections and take effect on Sept. 1.

Genoans turned out for public comment at Tuesday’s fire district meeting to make sure that plan to build a cell tower disguised as a water tank fire station is truly dead.

Agnes Scott Train, one of the Nevada State Museum’s first curators and former Pink House owner, will be portrayed by Anita Watson 6:30 p.m. today at the Dangberg Historic Home Ranch.

Train’s mother, Margaret Hume Scott, co-founded the Genoa Historical Society, which would one day be the Douglas County Historical Society. My research traces the first time the 1919 date for the first Candy Dance was mentioned in The R-C was in Scott’s column.

A small fire popped up north of Highway 108 near Wolf Creek in Mono County on Wednesday morning. It doesn’t say it was caused by lighting, but does it have to? We may see a couple of these after the thunderstorms pass.

Smith Valley won the precipitation lottery on Tuesday with .41 inches falling around 10 a.m. There were only a few spots with barely measurable rain on our side of the Pine Nuts.

The odds of showers or thunderstorms have gone up to 40 percent and climbing to 50-50 starting tonight. There might be showers between 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. increasing as the afternoon progresses. The high is forecast to approach 92 degrees with just a breeze unless you’re near a storm cell.
