One of the hottest tickets in town is the Douglas County Citizen’s Law Enforcement Academy which is 1-5 p.m. Sept. 5-8 at the Judicial & Law Enforcement Center, 1038 Buckeye Road, Minden.

The Sheriff’s Office and Douglas County TRIAD host the annual academy. For just Douglas residents, it doesn’t cost anything to participate, but there aren’t many spots.

“The goal of the Citizen's Law Enforcement Academy is to provide crime-fighting educational programs and information to citizens of Douglas County,” officials said. “Attendees will become more aware and comfortable with law-enforcement services and law enforcement officers, and in return, will develop a better understanding of the needs of citizens within our county.”

The academy includes training and instruction on a variety of law enforcement topics, including uniformed patrol procedures, jail/custody procedures, criminal investigations, crime scene processing, narcotic and gang investigations, criminal justice system, criminal prosecution, court procedure, dispatch operations, identity theft and fraud prevention, law enforcement volunteer programs, fire prevention, youth services, and emergency medical information.

To sign up call the Douglas County Sherriff’s Admin Office 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 775-782-9901.
