County Road was closed from Highway 395 to Highway 88 on Thursday as workers conducted a slurry seal across its length.

According to Douglas County, Toler Lane from Muller Parkway to Willow Creek Lane is today before the crack sealers move toward Gardnerville on Monday to work on Waterloo Lane and Toler past Stodick Park.

Next week roads in Ruhenstroth will be the focus before the project wraps up at South Santa Barbara Drive on Sept. 1.

Residents should expect the roads to be closed at times during the day while the work is being done.

To view the full scope of the work and a schedule, see attached map.

“A road slurry typically is done to fill cracks and voids within roads and to apply color and texture to the road to act as a new driving surface,” according to the county. “This process is important in maintaining the longevity of the roads.”

Road work this summer has mainly focused on repairs to drainage alongside county roads after last winter’s storms.

That’s been true of work on state roads, including Highway 395 through the Pine Nuts.

One new project, installation of a traffic signal on Highway 50 at Warrior Way, and associated road construction, has seen the light this season.

While not in Douglas County, the California Department of Transportation continues work to bypass High Point curve which was damaged by weather last year.

The highway has been down to one lane there since big cracks were found in the roadway last spring.

The solution is to cut through the mountain and straighten the road, which continues.

Repaving projects on Highway 395 and likely Highway 50 will occur next roadwork season.
