Genoa, Nev. — Author and historian Ken Beaton will be talking about his new book containing interviews with Vietnam veterans at the Good Governance Group meeting noon today at the COD Casino, 1593 Esmeralda. Cost is $5 per person and includes a beverage.


There is another month of Esmeralda Farmers Markets left, but just two of the Just a Drop Farmers Markets at Heritage Park. The Esmeralda Market is 4-8 p.m. today and the Heritage Park market is 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday.


It was five years ago Monday that the Perlan 2, which “summers” at Minden-Tahoe Airport set a 65,605-foot altitude record, topping the previous record. The crew is in South America now and cracked 60,000 feet last week.


I’m not particularly superstitious, but a super blue moon, Burning Man and the forecast wind coinciding this week just smacks of the impossible becoming possible. Just be careful out there.


Today, the forecast calls for sunny skies and a high temperature of 87 degrees. The wind will start out of the southeast at 5-10 mph, shifting west at 10-15 mph, gusting to 25 mph. Thursday looks to be the breeziest day for Minden with 15-20 mph until around midnight.
