Genoa, Nev. — There was quite a pall from smoke on Sunday morning coming from several sources in and around Carson Valley. Air quality hit levels unhealthy for sensitive groups overnight Saturday and briefly on Sunday night.
Balloon Nevada conducted tethered balloon rides as part of a Salvation Army toy drive on Saturday. I’m reaching out to find out how things went, but it looked well attended.
This is the last week for backyard burning, though a variety of local, state and federal agencies will continue to burn, as will agricultural operations. An inversion layer in the Valley is keeping smoke close to the ground.
With precisely two weeks left until Christmas, things are picking up in the stores and at the post offices. The deadline to mail a card to someone and have it arrive for Christmas is Saturday.
With a third of an inch of rain falling in Minden last week, December is at .42 inches for the month, or slightly below average. With high pressure ensconced over the Valley, it’ll be Sunday before we see any more moisture.
The forecast calls for partly sunny skies with a high temperature around 51 degrees, and the wind calm shifting north to around 5 mph in the afternoon.
