Genoa, Nev. — Distribution of presents for 652 Carson Valley children as part of Project Santa Claus begins today. Volunteers were literally wrapping up on Thursday. Organizer Alicia Main said that 232 families will receive gifts this year.


A 13-year-old girl was taken for treatment after being struck 3 p.m. Thursday by a vehicle at Waterloo and Highway 395. She was conscious and breathing, according to medics on scene. About two hours later a vehicle hit a building in Meridian Business Park south of Airport Road.


County commissioners reappointed Bryce Clutts to the planning commission but voted 4-1 to seek additional candidates rather than appoint either of the applicants to the Douglas County Planning Commission seat being vacated by Ken Paxton. They


Three of the four Airport Advisory committee members were reappointed while Mike Bradford was appointed to represent the Airport Advisory Committee. Mickie Hempler and Glenn Wolfson were reappointed to the Vacation Home Rental committee.


A Hannukah party is 5-8 p.m. today at the CVIC Hall hosted by Temple Bat Yam in South Lake Tahoe. The party is to be followed by Shabbat Services at 7 p.m. All ages are welcome, and no RSVP is required.


Both Garden Cemetery and Eastside Memorial Park will be laying wreaths on the graves of veterans 9 a.m. Saturday as part of Wreaths Across America.


A strong temperature inversion is going to keep smoke close to the ground through the weekend until a storm arrives after midnight on Sunday. Air quality hit 96 in Gardnerville at 1 a.m. today, approaching unhealthy levels for sensitive populations.

The forecast calls for partly sunny skies with the high temperature hitting 49 degrees today and sunny with a high of 55 on Saturday and 53 on Sunday.
