Genoa, Nev. — It’s another foggy morning in Carson Valley as the relative humidity hits 100 percent. Minden-Tahoe Airport’s automated weather system was reporting visibility at under a quarter-mile, so take it slow on the commute. Winter officially begins 7:27 p.m. today, according to the U.S. Naval Observatory.

Douglas County commissioners have full plate on their last meeting of 2023 including the appointment of three new trustees to the Elks Point Sanitation District and a presentation on a sewer rate study and recommendations.

Also on the agenda is the biennial review of four adopted development agreements, including Monterra, where I’m sure we’ll hear about Muller Parkway, at least briefly. Commissioners meet 10 a.m. at the Douglas County Courthouse in Minden.

I’ve already talked about the vacation home rental rule changes and the bonds for the Judicial & Law Enforcement Center in other places. Those are both way down on the agenda so I expect commissioners and staff will be running into the evening.

The R-C probably isn’t the only non-retail business closing at lunchtime Friday for the Christmas weekend. Usually it would be Christmas Eve, but with Christmas on Monday, Friday will have to serve.

We’ll be closed along with most places on Monday. Because of the holiday, we’re putting next week’s paper mostly to bed today and Friday. The R-C will be doing it all over again next week for New Year’s.

The fog is expected to burn off by 10 or 11 a.m., according to the National Weather Service, but will be back tonight as moist air continues to linger in the region. Once the sun turns up, the high should climb to 47 degrees and the breeze will pick up out of the north at 5 mph.
