Genoa, Nev. — I expect the Bureau of Land Management will get an earful on the horses during the report they have scheduled at the Douglas County Board of commissioners 10 a.m. today.

Commissioners are being asked to ratify Genoans’ picks for the two empty town board seats. R. “Alex” Alexander is back and Charles C. Gould will be new to the town board.

Shoulder work on Highway 395 jus north of Holbrook Junction is underway and it expected to continue through Feb. 10. Watch out for workers down that way.

Nevada Department of Transportation surveyors have been up and down Highway 395 checking sight lines and preparing to pave the highway from First Street in Minden to Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville.

We’re going to see some pretty substantial road work when spring hits. Muller Lane is on the list, in addition to Main Street and Highway 395 through the Pine Nuts.

A stalled bottled water delivery truck had northbound Highway 395 down to one lane at Mica Drive backing up traffic to the base of Indian Hills at least.

There are spots down by the river in Carson Valley down to 2 degrees this morning and some spots higher up that are at 14 degrees.

I don’t know what the weather is like in Punxsutawney, Pa., but the groundhog would definitely see his shadow in these parts, predicting six more weeks of winter.

Of course, it’s Western Nevada, and it’s pretty common for it to snow on the first day of spring, anyway, so that’s probably as effective a forecast for mid-March as that provided by any quadruped.

We’re looking at partly sunny skies and a forecast high of 44 degrees today. The clouds are supposed to turn up tonight, which will keep the low from single digits, maybe.
