Genoa, Nev. — There were no reports of injuries from a shooting incident at a Mound House brothel that drew law enforcement and medical personnel from all over Western Nevada, including Douglas. The shooter surrendered after three hours.

Alpine County rescuers responded to Kirkwood around 10:11 a.m. Monday for a medical emergency that prompted a call for an ambulance helicopter. Otherwise, Washington’s Birthday went by relatively uneventfully.

East Fork Fire Protection District trustees have a long day today starting with a 10:30 a.m. budget workshop, a closed noon meeting to meet with management on negotiations and their regular meeting at 1 p.m. Trustees meet at the district offices, 1694 County Road, Minden.

Trustees are being asked to approve three additional seasonal fuels and fire crew members under the Nevada Energy Fuels Mitigation Contract starting this spring costing $61,516.49. They’ll also discuss seeking grant funding for a half-dozen firefighters.

I’ve pretty much given up on reporting temperatures at Lake Tahoe in the weather box on calendar after the gauges regularly go south. In honor of that, I’m going to try to track the temps at the Holbrook Junction weather station and see how that goes.

Speaking of temperatures, it’s pretty warm out this morning as the storm approaches. The NDOT station halfway up Kingsbury is reporting 45 degrees, while Markleeville hit 47 degrees.

The 32 degrees registered at Minden-Tahoe at 6 a.m. today is warmer than the 29-degree high temperatures forecast for Wednesday through Friday. Get ready for some chilly weather.

The wind is supposed to start really picking up in Minden around 7 a.m. with the advisory taking effect at 10 a.m. with sustained winds of around 30 mph and gusts of 45 mph. I would anticipate some outages today, so save often.

The forecast calls for scattered rain showers 1-4 p.m. today and then possible snow-rain mix as the snow level drops to 5,200 feet. The 47 degree high is expected right around 1 p.m. and then will drop 13 degrees by sundown to s the wind shifts from southwest to north.
