Genoa, Nev. — While I was working on the Morning Report, NV Energy fixed an outage affecting 407 customers. That will be the status all day as the power company makes repairs across Carson Valley, check back at NVenergy.com to see how that work is going.

They made a little progress over the night, reducing the outages to 113 from 153, affecting 4,557 customers down from 5,046 at 10:45 p.m. Sunday down to 114 this morning.

Lake Tahoe has taken over as the largest number of customers without power, with 1,605 in the dark. The power company estimate this morning is 976 to be restored by 4 p.m. today, with the rest out until 6:45-7 p.m. Tuesday.

North county has 1,148 without power and a restoration estimate for 758 at 4 p.m. today. The rest are Tuesday night.

The community that got hit by some of the worst of the storm actually has one of the fewer numbers of those without power today. 146 homes and businesses in the Gardnerville Ranchos are without power, with restoration of 54 of those today.

Of the 1,305 Gardnerville customers without power, the estimated restoration time for 717 is 4 p.m. today. For most of the rest, the power company is anticipating another night without electricity.

Minden has 252 NV Energy customers without power according to nvenergy.com. Genoa is down to 49 customers. All those folks aren’t estimated to be back on until 6:45 Tuesday.

Keep in mind that when I’m referring to customers, that’s the number of meters, so it could be a business or a house or an irrigation well. I generally multiply the number by two to get residents, it’s not very scientific but it isn’t without some justification.

The hotels were full last night, and people were taking in those without power. Make sure you check on the elderly and frankly anyone, because it is 9 degrees out this morning. If you need shelter in the Valley, go to the community center. Harvey’s is the location for the Lake. I hear they’re serving coffee and hot and cold running recharging this morning.

The Valley side of Kingsbury Grade remains closed this morning and likely will be all day. CalTrans announced Highway 395 through Mono County is open after being closed since New Year’s Eve. Road controls are in effect on Highway 50 from Carson to Stateline. NVroads.com says the passes re open.

Today is the New Year's holiday for many folks. While the government is closed, there are lots of folks working hard to recover from the storm, so give them a break today. If you don't have to go out on the roads, don't, and if you are out o the roads, stay on the pavement.

We might see a bit more snow today as a fast moving storm rolls through the Valley, but nothing like Saturday. The breeze will be out of the southeast at 5 mph, which could knock snow out of trees. The high temperature is forecast to hit 36 today.
