To anyone not keeping an active tally, it was hard to follow every time Douglas High senior Theo Reid rejected a Miner shooter, trying to make his way inside to score.
Douglas was able to take down Bishop Manogue in their first meeting of the season, 53-42, Thursday night in Minden in large part due to the presence of their big man.
Reid was 5-of-9 from the floor, scoring 10 points for the Tigers while pulling down 10 rebounds and swatting eight blocks, marking him two blocks shy of a triple-double.
The 6-foot-8 senior said postgame there isn’t a much better feeling than smacking an attempted shot out of play or back off the glass.
“My teammates are giving me the perfect position to be in help side,” said Reid.
“I don’t think they were ready for that. I thought as a team we did a really good job on that rotation to help Theo do that,” said Douglas High head coach Corey Thacker. “He’s playing well and he’s got to keep doing it.”
Of all the sports he’s been involved in to this point, he says nothing turns heads quite like a swift rejection.
“It takes away the intensity from the other team and kills spirits.”
While Reid was dominating on the glass, Douglas was finding ways to get other offensive pieces flowing.
At guard, JC Reid shot 40 percent from the floor in the win, scoring 11 points to go along with three rebounds and five assists.
Sophomore Caden Thacker continues to elude defenders with his agility and ability to put the ball of the glass for scores.
Thacker had 10 points and eight rebounds for Douglas while Thomas McDowell put together 11 points, nine of which came on triples, and eight boards.
Douglas led by 14, 32-18, after Thacker put together a highlight-reel worthy drive to the rim late in the first half.
The Miners were able to get it back to single digits by the end of the third quarter, 39-31, but the Tigers pushed it right back to 10-plus to start the fourth.
Closing the fourth, JC Reid nailed a corner triple to give Douglas a 53-35 lead and all but seal the victory.
“There’s still a lot of things we can sure up,” said Corey Thacker. “We have to take care of the ball and be smart the entire time.”
Douglas ended the night with 24 turnovers as a team.

Stepping forward
Only five games into the league season, Douglas is making sure to stay focused on the regular season and not the path to the postseason.
“I think for us, it’s making sure we take it one game at a time,” said Reid. “We just need to be focused on what’s right in front of us, instead of focusing on February or playoffs. We just need to focus on every game and win every possession.”
Coach Thacker concurred with his forward’s assessment, noting that the Class 5A North is already showing plenty of parity.
UP NEXT: The Tigers (8-6 overall, 4-1 in Class 5A league play) will play Spanish Springs (9-5, 5-0) Saturday at 2 p.m. in a rematch of last season’s regional final.
