Genoa, Nev. — Update: There are reports of multiple vehicles in the ditch along Highway 88 at round 7:50 a.m., likely caused by slick conditions. Deputies are reporting a tow truck on its side near Carson Valley Veterinarian. No road controls have been implemented for Highway 88, but that's going to change.
Chains or snow tires are being required on Highway 395 from Topaz Lake to Cold Springs this morning as light snow falls across Western Nevada. Douglas Lake Tahoe school bus routes are down to the main stops this morning.
One person was transported from a collision on Tourmaline near Mica Drive in Indian Hills. Reports were that a van rolled all the way around. That was the worst of the collisions on Wednesday, which is sort of a surprise to me.
I hope to have more information on the pursuit of a fugitive that took place around lunchtime on Wednesday. The man was sought by South Lake Tahoe, and was arrested in Carson City by Douglas deputies, so there’s some question as to where he’ll turn up after he’s released from the hospital.
The Pink House is up for its liquor license under its new owners at the Douglas County Liquor Board. Approval will wrap up the transfer of the restaurant located in the historic Genoa building that was once home to Candy Dance founder Lillian Virgin Finnegan.
Douglas County commissioners will discuss a $3.493 million contract for the engineering and design of a new county judicial center with Tate Snyder Kimsey Architects at their 10 a.m. meeting today. Also on the agenda is second reading of an ordinance that would allow a manufactured home as an accessory dwelling on a lot that has a manufactured home.
Two county business parks established in the last century will be off the books if county commissioners approve ordinances repealing their development agreements after they’ve completed their obligations. The county is shutting down the flooding hotline since it looks like the wet atmospheric river storms have dried up. Forecast cold weather will be rough, but it will slow snowmelt and reduce the amount of runoff. The hotline will resume should it be needed.
It’s snowing across the county before dawn this morning, though nothing like we’ve seen over the past couple of weeks. Next week is supposed to be relatively calm as shields go up to prevent more storms. The snow should stop around 7 a.m. with skies clearing and temperatures working to reach 32 degrees. The wind will be out of the north at 5-10 mph.
