Genoa, Nev. — An effort to raise money for a professional fire department in Kirkwood was defeated 105-38, according to results released by Alpine County on Tuesday night. I expect the proposed $513 per parking space a year was the likely culprit.


While the forecast high temperatures for Saturday and Sunday remain steady at 103 degrees, an excessive heat watch has been upgraded to a warning for Carson Valley and most of the rest of the region below 5,500 feet.


Meanwhile, a heat advisory has been issued for the length of the Sierra Nevada. There’s a slight chance we might get some help from thunderstorms on Sunday, though they bring their own concerns.

The 34th American Century Championship is swinging up at Stateline, which means Lake Tahoe will be busier than an average July weekend when it’s sweltering hot in the rest of the region.


We’re going to look back fondly on today’s 92-degree high and cooling Zephyr. The west wind will be 10-15 mph this afternoon and 15-20 mph this evening.
