Genoa, Nev. — A proposal to build a new judicial center off Buckeye Road took the first step on Thursday when commissioners approved notifying the debt management commission. The cost of the project is estimated at $43.3 to $57.1 million.
I estimate at least 50 visitors participated in a tour of the Minden Mill on Thursday evening. A spokeswoman said the distillery will hold its grand opening on Sept. 9.

Rumors of MacAvoy Layne’s retirement appear to be, if anything, underexaggerated. The 30-year veteran Mark Twain performer is making a stop at Taylor Creek Visitor Center for "A Final Evening with Mark Twain and A Farewell to MacAvoy Layne" 6:30 p.m. at the Lake of the Sky Amphitheater near South Lake Tahoe.
It might be the hottest month on record in lots of places, but not in Minden. The average maximum temperature for July, so far, is 93.6 degrees, 5 degrees short of the record of 98.6 degrees set in 2007.
The heat is back, though the forecast high has softened a degree to 99 with sunny skies and the Zephyr out of the west at 10-15 mph. Saturday is forecast to hit 100 with things cooling slightly on Sunday.
