Genoa, Nev. — After a well-deserved three-month hiatus, the Vacation Home Rental Advisory Board is meeting 1 p.m. today at the Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District Station No. 23, 193 Elks Point Road in Zephyr Cove. They’re conducting a review of a conditional Tier 3 permit and discussing next steps in their ongoing mission to revise the ordinance.
Douglas County Mosquito Abatement will take to the air around 8 a.m. Thursday and Friday morning to spray adulticide over 5,000 acres west of Highway 395. Expect the cropduster to be back overhead, only this time the target isn’t hoppers.

A bird is the likely cause of a power outage that affected 1,531 NV Energy customers on Tuesday afternoon. I suspect that bird may well have ignited the brush fire that coincided with the outage. It has happened before.
It’s entirely possible that today’s fire weather watch will be upgraded to a red flag warning this morning. If an electrocuted bird can set a brush fire, then it’s not going to take much.
Expect the wind to pick up in Minden around 1 p.m. with 30 mph gusts until around 7 p.m. We could see the same thing happen on Thursday. The forecast calls for a high temperature of 94 degrees with the wind out of the southwest 15-20 mph this afternoon.
